Sadly, Denison’s two Emmy nominees went home empty-handed on Sunday.
Christian Homlish’ 03, producer of Top Chef, saw his show lose the Outstanding Reality-Competition to The Amazing Race, which has won the award eight of the last nine years.
And though it seemed like everyone on the planet was rooting for Steve Carell ’84 to take home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award in his final season as Michael Scott on The Office, it was not to be. Instead, Jim Parsons took home the statuette for his role as Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. Carell fans are practically taking to the streets over the Office outrage. AolTV.com called it the biggest Emmy bummer; Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute) tweeted that the world of TV ought to be ashamed; and the DU buzzard had to be revived with smelling salts.
Still, it was a pretty sweet night for both Denisonians. Homlish brought wife Kate ’06 to the awards ceremony, and, thankfully, neither Carell nor the Homlishes had to dress up like a pirate and croon about the Tortugas.
