We're moving!

We're moving our new stories to Denison.edu, the college's super-sweet mothership. Over time, we'll be moving some of our best past stories from TheDEN over there too. In the meantime, we've made available an archive of all stories here. This archive will be available for a few months before this site is permanently shut down. See you at Denison.edu! - June 2016

Women’s hoops featured in Ohio College Basketball Insider

Serafina Nuzzo, a sophomore point guard from Western Springs, Ill.

The unprecedented success of Denison’s 19-0 women’s basketball team has been turning a lot of heads lately, including Mark Znider’s. The veteran sportswriter for the Columbus Dispatch recently chatted with team members and shared some insight into the Big Red’s smashing start in the latest Ohio College Basketball Insider.

Quoting Serafina Nuzzo, a sophomore point guard from Western Springs, Ill., and Christina Myers, junior post from Pataskala, Ohio, Znider characterizes Coach Sara Lee’s undefeated squad as a group of tightly knit and loyal teammates who don’t believe, or even read, their own press. Ranked ninth in the most recent USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches’ Poll (up from 11th last week), and sitting alone atop the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, the Big Red are keenly aware that their next opponent is their only important opponent, and they understand that every other NCAC team is aiming for them right now.

Update (Feb. 4, 2011): On Thursday, Feb. 3, in a game delayed by 24 hours because of icy road conditions, the Big Red women’s team defeated conference rival Ohio Wesleyan in Granville by a 75-45 score. Denison’s current 20-0 record is not just the longest winning streak in school history — it also marks the first time in the entire history of the North Coast Athletic Conference that a women’s basketball program has opened the season by winning its first 20 games.
